May 27 was the much anticipated Star Wars: Galactic Nights special event. Fans enjoyed specialty food items, including a three-cheese pasta with meatball dish. Rare appearing Star Wars characters were present to meet fans during the evening. Star Wars planets came to life on the giant projections seen on the Tower of Terror throughout the event. This event also resulted in additional new scenes to the Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular night time show, which can be seen nightly. Present were Walt Disney Imagineers who introduced the Black Spire Outpost which will be the largest settlement on the future plant Batuu at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Included are life size photos shared by the Panel of incredible full scale AT-ATs that will be part of one of the immersive attractions that will astound fans. New circular steel structures and additions above the gondola cable system drive wheels are visible in the brand new photos below. The Park’s Skyliner guest arrival and departure station continues to take shape. This station will enable guests to eventually travel on the gondola transportation system directly to Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort with additional Skyliner routing to either Disney’s Riviera Resort or and EPCOT, or onward to the station serving both Disney’s Art of Animation Resort and Disney’s Pop Century Resort. The vast parking area development recently completed now serves cast member vehicles. In addition, a newly constructed one story Cast Services building located at the west side of the new lot handles arriving and departing cast. Meanwhile, the Television parking section is now open for guest parking with the first two rows designated for guest pick up, drop off and UBER service. This overall parking modification will reduce congestion for Disney Bus Transportation to the Park. A modification to the guest vehicle departure pattern should improve traffic flow at busy times. Vehicles leaving from either the Film or Television sections are directed out of the lots with a right turn only onto Lake Buena Vista Drive, Otherwise, guests departing from the Stage or Music parking areas have the option to proceed straight across or to turn left at the Lake Buena Visit Drive intersection. The recent sidewalk construction that blocked guest movement in front of the Hyperion Theater was first reported to readers by Hollywood Studios HQ. Construction barriers had necessitated that guests detour around Echo Lake. Since completion of this work as of May 27, guest foot traffic in and around the Theater has returned to normal. Upon recent completion of a replacement sidewalk project in front of the Hyperion Theater, workers have once again re-routed guest foot traffic for another sidewalk closure directly past the Theater exit doors. Guests now use a narrow walk way past the Path of the Jedi film and the Olaf Meet and Greet to bypass this new concrete work. Guests will now have until September 1, 2018, to enjoy the current Disney Junior-Live on Stage performance before its replacement with a new Disney Junior Dance Party. This new live performance attraction will delight guests young and old with characters from Disney Junior TV shows, including Mickey and the Roaster Racers.
Guests visiting Disney’s Star Wars Launch Bay gallery can see Han Solo’s authentic Corellia costume in intricate detail. The clothing Han Solo wore during his street thief days is modeled by a full size figure. Guests can view Han Solo with clothing and accessories representative of his association with the White Worms gang. In a nearby full glass display case, viewers will also marvel at the Corellia costume worn by the 18 year old Qi’ra. This character in the Solo: Star Wars motion picture stands in full array. Her show case also displays unique accessories and props from the upcoming film, such as a Range Trooper helmet, originally worn by specialized solders whose role was to defend Imperial interests in frontier settlements. Assorted merchandise to commemorate Orlando’s Gay Days celebrations in June are awaiting shoppers on Hollywood Blvd. Mickey’s Of Hollywood features the colorful rainbow theme in an assortment of beverage tumblers, Mickey Mouse ears, antenna toppers, as well as tee shirts featuring a Cinderella’s Castle background. Two new outdoor directional signs, similar to the new signage reported to readers last week, appeared in Center Stage. One sign was erected before the Animation Courtyard, while the second sign is located near the Brown Derby.
The Stitch merchandise collection in the Carthay Circle shopping location saw two new tee shirts and a hat added. These add to the existing selection.
An authentic all black plastic Darth Vader drinking mug awaits purchasers at various walk up popcorn stands throughout Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Featuring a lightsaber designed hold handle with a flip open figure lid, this mug was also featured at the May 27 Star Wars: Galactic Nights special ticketed event. BB8 and Millennium Falcon design balloons are now bobbing on Park thoroughfares. These new Star Wars themed balloons offer a choice of either a detailed BB8 design or an orange and purple colored design that features both the Millennium Falcon and TIE Fighter craft on the same balloon. Crews have now completely enclosed the rear wall of the main show building as pictured below. Remaining wall enclosure work yet to be completed on this structure is visible from the guest exit near The Muppet-3D attraction.
